After a month of picking at it, behold Juri's sword from Utena, made almost entirely of leftovers.
The only thing I bought specifically for this was the foil tape I put on the blade. I wanted to see if it lived up to it's reputation. Final verdict: The effect is pretty good and it is affordable, but it's not that much different from applying standard metal leaf. The only reason it's not as pull-your-hair-out frustrating as leaf is because nothing is simpler to gild than a flat plane. All in all, it's a fine finish for sword blades.
The hilt is leafed, which was an experience. I was originally planning on just painting it, but then I realized that paint up against foil wasn't going to look good. :-P Metal leaf is like that old, bad flame who treats you like dirt but who you keep going back to because the sex is so good.

do you have a tutorial for the sword? o.o I need it for a cosplay... and always was going to think how to get the hilt >.<;
